Hope is to one day reintroduce caribou to parts of northern Ontario where they haven't lived in decades
CBC NewsErik WhiteThere are plans to bring caribou back to the island in Lake Superior where they were rescued from wolves back in 2018.
Caribou were brought to Michipicoten Island in the 1980s and by 2014, when an ice bridge allowed wolves to cross over, they were said to be as many as 1,000.
But by 2018, there were only 15 left to be airlifted off of the large island near Wawa and taken to the remote Caribou Island and the Slate Islands near Terrace Bay.
