The Kawarthan: Where to paddle in the Kawarthas?

Canoeing and kayaking are among some of the favourite pastimes for locals and cottagers in the Kawarthas, with more than 250 nearby lakes and rivers offering opportunities for varied paddling experiences for beginners and seasoned paddlers alike.

Those who are looking to get into a canoe or kayak for the first time, or who are planning to introduce children to paddling, can try the flat, calm waters of Little Lake right in Peterborough. There are numerous places to launch without portaging, like the T-Wharf, from Millennium Park or Beavermead Park, and canoes and kayaks are available to rent by the hour, day, or weekend.

Another hot spot for paddlers is Indian River, which can be accessed through the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area. This is a great route for birdwatching enthusiasts and wildlife photographers, with long marshy areas, tree-lined shores, and scenic views. After a leisurely paddle, visitors can enjoy a picnic in Warsaw, explore the caves, or hike the various trails throughout the conservation area.
